Do you think socially learned cultural behavior is unique to humans? NO…you’re wrong. A study revealed that our good old ancestors-Chimpanzees show cultural differences.
A team of international scientists did a research on chimpanzees behavior and found that chimps build their ‘cultures’ just like that of humans. Although it is confirmed that behavioral differences between colonies of chimpanzees are due to genetic variability, the variety is mainly due to migration of apes to other places.
The researchers studied the food preparation behavior of chimpanzees. They really exclaimed that one colony make use of stone as a tool to break open the nuts and other group used both stones and wood as a tool.
The second group chimpanzees use a small wooden stick to poke into the termite hill to eat the termites that stick on to the wooden pole.
The team found these methods of food preparation have traveled all along from East to West Africa, which is 4000 km far apart. They migrated more than 100,000 years before.
