I am really amazed to hear that foresters in the western parts of India are making use of ring tones of roosters crowing, goats bleating and cows mooing to attract the leopards that intruded into the human inhabitation.
Generally Gujarat Forest Department, part of western India is having problem of brutal intrusion of leopard on the village domain, which is near the forest area for want of food.
Hitherto, the forest department is using live traps like dogs and goat in a trapping cage to capture the roaming great felids. Some times the forest gaurds dug a huge pit near the tree in which live bait like goat was being tied.
Gone are the days of using live traps for the department of forests and environment. Thanks to the technology! The ring tones with different animal sounds lure the leopards, which then get trapped either in huge pits or trapping cages.
A senior forest official- D.Vasani conveyed that using this ring tone technique they have captured nearly five leopards within a month to release them into the dense forests with enough predators.
Wildlife enthusiastic admired the new innovative method of capturing big cats as the previous methods will cause some permanent injury to the trapped leopards.
