Malaria, the dreadful disease of mammals created awareness program among our ancestors- Chimpanzees. Chimpanzees in Uganda is taking a mouthful of dirt to :self medicate” against malaria.
According to study conducted by the Museum National d’Histoire Naturelle in Paris daily dose of dirt keeps the chimps hale and healthy against Malaria. Clay soils consumed by both chimps and humans in Uganda’s Kibale National park contain high density of mineral Kaolinite, a main ingredient of most of the anti-diarrheal medicine.
A French team recently observed that the chimpanzees eat the dirt after consuming the dry leaves of the plant Trichilia rubescens that harbors potent medicinal property.
Health benefit is not achieved in the chimps by consuming the plant’s leaf only. The malarial ingredient in the plant is activated when fine soil particles bind with chemicals in the leaves.
The study added that the chimps are often eat the dirt that has been exposed on the root of newly fallen trees to get cured against malaria. Chimps are really so intelligent….
