Posted on May 17th, 2010 by Wildlife Luver, under Uncategorized.
A census for Elephants was conducted by Tamilnadu Forest Department (INDIA) from12th May-2010 to 15 May-2010. The census was simultaneously carried out in three states- Tamilnadu, Kerala, and Karnataka. This elephant census was conducted by “block and dung counting method” to give accurate data.
This census will help the officials to get better idea about habitat conditions, water availability and water sources in forests. The census was performed with the help of experts from the Bangalore Institute of Science and the Wildlife Institute of India, students and wildlife enthusiasts. Still we are awaiting for results…This is really a wildlife conservation measure oftheTamilnadu Government. Hats off to the dept!!!
